The Conservative Caucus Foundation works to safeguard your contributions to Social Security. Our outreach programs bring the results of our research to hundreds of thousands of Americans annually.
Conservatives are optimistic that President Trump’s policies will strengthen Social Security through faster economic growth, but are concerned about taxation of benefits and the size of annual cost of living increases, according to a 2018 poll by The Conservative Caucus Foundation.
By a margin of 59% to 10%, respondents agreed that Trump’s policies of tax cuts and deregulation will fuel the economic growth needed to make Social Security financially healthy.
Only 5% said that the annual COLA was sufficient to cover their actual increase in expenses, and 62% were aware of the shrinking value of their benefit payments. Taxation of benefits was opposed by 97%.
A nearly-unanimous 98% agreed that the almost $3 trillion owed to the Social Security Trust Fund should be repaid and used to fund benefits, and that other programs should be reduced in order to cut the Federal deficit.
The Conservative Caucus Foundation (TCCF), founded in 1976, has published studies on many public policy issues, including a Constitutional Budget, ObamaCare, the Panama Canal, nuclear disarmament, border security and the presidential war power.
TCCF President, Mr. Peter J. Thomas
