During President Biden’s 2023 State of the Union address to Congress, Biden made a false statement designed to scare senior citizens. This has been debunked by fact-checkers.
Here’s the lie: “Some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset.” That would mean abolishing these programs. The truth is that zero Republicans want to abolish Social Security or Medicare. It’s a scare and propaganda tactic, and the media usually repeats Biden’s lies.
“I’m not saying it’s a majority, anybody who doubts it, contact my office, I’ll give you a copy. I’ll give you a copy of the proposal.” At that point, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) shouted “liar!” and other Republicans joined in protesting this lie.
Biden continued, trying to deflect the truth: “I’m not saying it’s a majority of you. I don’t even think it’s even a significant – but it’s being proposed by individuals. I’m politely not naming them, but it’s being proposed by some of you.”
He couldn’t name anyone because it’s a lie.
